The Financial Times reviews a new exhibition of Henri Cartier-Bresson at the Center Pompidou in Paris. New to me is the fact that he was an heir to a large fortune yet he is said to walk to Wall Street to spit on a Rolls Royce.
He focused on photography starting in 1930. His career was stalled by three years in a prisoner of war camp during World War II.
Contrary to the myth surrounding him, he did own a flash and more than a 50mm lens. The exhibition even has a small display of color slides.
The article praises the exhibition as revealing a "thoroughly engaging version of Cartier-Bresson, an intellectual with a camera.."
